Procreate 5X released a slew of new amazing tools for artist. One of my favorites is the new Face Paint tool. This allows you to draw fun and unique art pieces that can instantly be turned into face masks! You can even edit and view your artwork in real-time using AR! Today, I’m going to walk you though how to get the most out of this awesome tool!

1. OPEN A BLANK CANVAS

It doesn’t matter what canvas size you choose as long as its blank!

2. GO TO ACTIONS PANEL

Tap on the wrench icon on the top right corner of the toolbar to pull up your Actions Panel.

3. TOGGLE REFRENCE ON

The toggle should turn blue when it is activated. You should now see your Reference Companion in the top left of your canvas.

Not familiar with Reference Companion yet? Check out my tutorial HERE.

4. TAP ON ‘FACE’

Doing this activates the front-facing camera on your iPad. Your camera automatically maps your artwork to your face! It also puts 4 guides for where your eyes, nose, and mouth go on your canvas so you can draw more precisely. Go ahead try it out!

5. CHOOSE OTHER FACE PAINT OPTIONS

There are also a few more options you can choose from while face painting. Go to your Reference window and tap on ‘Options’ under the Reference header.

Take a Photo: Use this to take a photo of you in your face paint!

Record a Video: Use this to record a fun video of your face paint!

Camera: Use this to hide your live camera while you finish drawing your artwork.

Full Screen: Use this to make your Reference Companion full screen.

That’s all there is to it. Happy painting!
